Flight of the Conchords Lip Dub Fansterpiece December 2008

After the success of the premiere season of HBO’s Flight of the Conchords, Deep Focus sought to create an initiative that leveraged the ravenous existing fanbase while mobilizing advocacy and promoting the new season. With fan excitement building for the long anticipated second season, Deep Focus concepted and developed the Lip Dub Video Fansterpiece to drive fans to create content and feed into their natural behaviors (Karaoke anyone?).

Fans were asked to submit their best video Lip Dubs of the Flight of the Choncords song, “Hiphopopotamus vs Ryhmenoceros.” The top 20 submissions were then chosen to be included in the ultimate Flight of the Conchords Fansterpiece keeping loyal to Flight’s cult roots while creating spreadable content. The Muthaflippin’ result? 1000 minutes of amateur video content created with over 500,000 views – millions of views of professional content including celebrity Lip Dubs from Chris Kattan, Jake and Amir of College Humor fame, and more- as well as over 2mm views of the Season 2 premiere online.

During the highly successful second season, the final Fansterpiece was also broadcasted on-air after an episode of Flight of the Conchords.
